Shri Tanjore R. Kumar, has had very basic academic qualification but underwent a sea change Gurukala training under Kalaimamani Late Shir Tanjore Upendran, Mridanga vidwan.
Shri Tanjore R. Kumar has played in almost all major sabhas all over India and abroad.He has clinched the top prize from Midrange accompaniment at the annual festival of sri Krishna Gana Sabha, T.Nagar, Chennai. Had been conferred with the title of ‘Thollisai Vendu’ in Muthu Thandavar Festival held in Chennai in the year 1997. Had Meritorious Award in the Maharajapuram Santhanam Memorial. Day function held in Chennai in June 2003. He was awarded the title of “Shri KANCHEE KAMAKOTI PEETAM AASTHANA VIDWAN” in the year October 2003 He was awarded the title of “THIRUPUGAZH MAAMANI” in Chennai in August 2004.
Has recorded his talent on Mridangam in many cassettes & C.Ds as an accompanist. The depth of his knowledge in music has been well appreciated from all quarters.
Shri Tanjore R. Kumar is an “A” grade artiste in Prasar Bharati and is employed as a Staff Artist in All India Radio, Chennai.
